Behold Your King!

Today is Christ is King day, according to many church calendars. It is the last Sunday before Advent (Coming of Christ) starts to bring in the Christmas season. All of this week it is my hope to honor Jesus as Christ the King by posting verses speaking of who He is as our King... yours and mine.

Today's readings of Christ the King are: Matthew 21:5, Zechariah 9:9,

"Tell the daughter of Zion,
'Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey...'"
Matt. 21:5 NKJ

When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday He rode on a little foal of a donkey. The crowds were cheering and waving palm branches. Many of them were wondering if this was the coming of God's chosen one. On that day, He fulfilled this prophecy of the coming Messiah:

Time of Renewal

This time of year is wonderful because it is a time of renewal... a time to set aside the mistakes of the past and look ahead to a fresh start. It is the dawn of a whole new year. Renewal is the very essence of the gospel of Christ. What Paul said to the Corinthians ine 5:17 is especially fitting:

"...anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.

The old life is gone;
a new life has begun."

In the New Year we will look at Searching for Treasure
and then move into the
Ministry of John the Baptist and Jesus.

You can share in His Passion, share His heart by reading in the gospels account of the last week of His life, His Passion Week. It is in this week that Jesus, knowing that He would soon leave this earth, that He told His disciples and other people the things that were most important for them to know before He died.

God's Spirit Poured Out

After Jesus ascended into heaven, a whole new era began. His disciples waited in Jerusalem until they were "clothed with power from on high". God's Spirit was poured out on them. Jesus' disciples spoke in languages that they did not even know. They were real languages of many different nations. And the foreigners living in Jerusalem heard them speaking about the amazing things that God had done, spoken in their own language. An absolute miracle! From here the gospel would go out to the ends of the earth.
