Exalted Humility

Reading: Matt. 5:5, Philippians 2:1-13,

"Blessed are the Meek.."
Matt. 5:5

As we looked to Jesus in the last post to consider what the attitude of meekness looks like in a person; we saw Him becoming a servant and washing the disciples feet. Jesus even says of Himself,

"For I am meek and lowly, (humble) in heart."
Matt. 11:29

In Jesus' life on this earth He demonstrated greater power than a political leader. He moved in the power of humble wisdom and penetrating love. Today we will look at powerful verses speaking of this humility and love. The apostle Paul calls us to have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

"Don't be selfish, don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born a human being.. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminals death on a cross.

Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow... and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Phil 2:1-11 NLT

We are called to have the same attitude of Christ to be in us. How do we live this beatitude of meekness? Be IN Christ and allow Him to form His attitude in You. When He knocks on the door of your heart, answer Him. Allow Him to come in and actually live IN you. Yield to His love and gentle nature. He will transform you into a new creation. The verses above shows what the attitude of Christ looks like. In our natural state we fall short of His glorious humility. But thanks be to God for His grace! When we believe in Him, He not only saves us from eternal hell, but He will dwell IN us. As we live in Him, He will transform our sin nature to form His beautiful nature in us. This will spare us and those around us from the misery of the sin nature living through us.

Hallelujah to God for His amazing love and gracious gifts to us.
