Jesus Son of God

Reading: Zech 9:9, Matt 21:1-11 Revelation 4 and 5, 19:11-16

"... who was, who is and who is to come, the Almighty."
Rev. 1:8

With these recent posts we are looking at Jesus as the Son of the Promise:

Jesus, the Son of Adam, the promise of one who would bruise the head of the serpent, the evil one.
Jesus the Second Adam who brought justification from the judgment of man that came through Adam.
Jesus, the Son of Abraham, the Lamb God who would provide atonement for our sins through faith in Him.
Jesus, the promised Son of David, The Lord God will give Him the throne of His Father David...
and of His Kingdom there will be no end."

Before Jesus came to live among us on earth, prophets spoke of His Coming. Zechariah prophecies the Coming of Israel's King:

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout O daughter of Jerusalem!
Tissot - Brooklyn Museum
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey."
Zech 9:9

Jesus fulfilled this prophecy the day He rode into Jerusalem at His first coming in meekness.  Jesus was lowly, with "a humility that is considerate, unassuming, gentle, mild, meek. Jesus showed greater power than armed might, the power of humble wisdom and penetrating love. Meekness is not weakness, but power under perfect control". (From word wealth in the New Spirit Filled Bible)
He did not come on a horse to make war with the Roman oppressors, because as He said to Pilate: "My kingdom is not of this world" John 18:36

Looking to the future, He will coming in great power and might. We catch a glimpse of Him, alive and risen in the book of Revelation. We see in chapters 4 and 5 the Great Throne of God in Heaven and Him holding a scroll in His right hand, the scroll that releases what is yet to come, the destruction of all evil, this earth; and bringing in the new heaven and new earth. The apostle John wept because no one was found worthy to open the scroll. Then came the Lamb of God, the lowly one who rode the donkey. Only He was worthy to open the scroll, because "... He was..." in the beginning with the Father, He humbled Himself and became a man, He died a humiliating death as the sacrificial Lamb to once and for all atone for the sins of all mankind. "...He is..." currently at the right hand of God. "And He is to come." He is coming back in power on a white horse in righteous judgment and will make war.
"Now I saw heaven open, and behold, a white horse.
And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True,
and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
His eyes were like flames of fire,
and on His head were many crowns...
He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood,
and His name is called The Word of God.
And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen,
white and clean, followed Him on white horses...
And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS."
Rev. 19:11-17

As Christians today we tend to see Him only as the meek man who came to earth to dwell among us, heal us, show us His love, and die for our sins. Thinking of Him in the role of judgment is uncomfortable for us. Yet this is what the Word of God says. And how can God be just and merciful if He does not avenge the victims of evil done to them? Think of all the horrible things that have taken place over the ages to innocent people, especially children. And thankfully it is not up to us to avenge ourselves because "Judgment is mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Romans 12:19

Thank God He provided a way for each of us who have sinned, to freely receive His gift of salvation through genuine belief in His atonement. And we who believe will not be the subjects of His wrath. But what about all the people around us, who do not know Him. It seems like almost our whole world is going to hell in a hand basket. Should we care about the judgment that is coming for them?... weep... mourn...intercede and preach the gospel? Or has political correctness shut us as believers up?

Today and forever Jesus Christ, the Son of Adam, Abraham and David, is the Risen Lord, The King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords, the Son of God. He is the Lord we will see in eternity. We are not to fear what man can do to us, because

"All authority has been given to Me
in heaven and in earth."
Matt. 28:18
