The Brightness of His Glory

Today's Reading: Luke 2:30-32, Hebrews 1:1-3, 2Cor. 4:6,7, 3:18

The last couple of days we have been looking at Simeon blessing the baby Jesus with these words:

"... my eyes have seen Your salvation
Which you have prepared before the face of all peoples,
A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel."

Luke 2:30-32

Yesterday we saw the words Jesus spoke as a man, and what the Apostle John said about Him. Today we will see Jesus as light and glory in His resurrected state. These verses tell us who He really is and how He brings revelation and transformation in our own hearts. Enjoy His amazing word.

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and
the exact representation of His being,
sustaining all things by His powerful word.
After he had provided purification for sins
he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
Hebrews 1:3 NIV

"For God, who said,
'Let the light shine out of the darkness',
made his light shine in our hearts
to give us the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay
to show that this all surpassing power is from God
and not from us."
2Cor 4:6,7 NIV

"But we all, with unveiled face,
beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image
from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord."
2Cor. 3:18 NKJ

"We have this treasure in jars of clay." That is SO powerful. It's not about us, it's about God. We are clay and flawed, but Jesus in us radiates light. Thank God He made this so simple for us. Thank God His Word and love is for all people who will receive it. The image of the treasue and the jars of clay is so meaningful and comforting. We are so richly blessed!

I was at the fair with my cousin Lauren many years ago. We came upon a booth with a potter crafting a pot on his potters wheel. He was spinning and shaping it into the most lovely of jars. I stood in awe as I watched the skilled craftsman's hands and was joyfully beholding the beauty of his creation, when without notice, and quite abruptly, the potter smashed this wonderful piece of art, right down to the base of his potters wheel.

"OH NO was my refrain. "It was so beautiful!" To which my cousin responded: "He is the Potter, we are the clay. He has the right to do as HE chooses and knows best with us."

I've never forgotten that day and I am MORE than grateful for the times our Heavenly Potter has chosen to use the difficulties of this life to reshape my thinking and my character. It's not enjoyable at the time for sure...but afterwards, it's incredible to be released from self absorbtion, and set free to be preoccupied with HIM!!!

MCB and Annie, your comments are beautiful insightful and inspire me.It is not about us, but about our radiant brilliant Lord Jesus. The jars of clay verse reminds me of the "Last Crusade" movie where it came time to choose the cup of Christ among many others. First the woman chose an ornate gold cup. The poor guy that drank out of it turned to dust.(Oops, she chose poorly) When Indy chose a cup, it was clay, with gold on the inside, humble with great treasure inside. Praise God for His goodness to place such valuable treasure in human hearts like ours.
Annie, your current day potter experience reminds me of Jeremiah's experience in chapter 18. Bless you both.

'We have this treasure in jars of clay'. Clay is so fragile; we are clay and therefore, so very fragile. Yet, the Lord has decided to pour His treasure into us, poor fragile jars of clay! Isn't that amazing? We are imperfect and helpless, He is perfect and powerful. Yet He covers us with His perfection by grace and pours His treasure of salvation and holiness inside of us... What is man that you mind him? asked David... wow... that is love....

Yes, love that the glory of God can dwell in us humble, fragile little jars of clay. We were taken from the ground and will return to it. Praise God it does not end there and someday we will have glorious new bodies to match the glory we hold, to live in the New Heaven and New Earth forever and ever. Amen
