God Becomes One of Us

Matthew 1:23, Luke 2:11

A star shines bright
Mary and Joseph alone in a stable
Her baby to be born that night
Her cry goes out into the darkness
She cries out in pain

Angels in awe watch silently over
Await the moment
 God, would become flesh
He who breathed the atmosphere into being
Would now draw His first breath

A baby's cry goes out across the earth
He has felt our pain
He shares our plight
God became one of us
Emmanuel, that night

There were no beautiful caroles or bells ringing
Just cattle lowing and sheep bleeting
In the stillness they rejoiced
Their savior had been born
To them that night
